Colorado Rockies Series (2015 – 17)

Some of my best works are from a trip to Colorado Mountain National Park in 2015.  I established a close connection with the area as it brought me closer to a passion for Japanese gardening and bonsai plants, which I share with my son.

In the painting, Filtered Highlights, I used a sponge for texture in the rocks after experimenting with this technique with my grandson.  The leaning tree is typical of the attention I notice about different life forms and their location at the water’s edge.

Another in the series is of Mount Hallet, where the greys and indigo help establish the mood.   I noticed a rocky oasis containing two small waterfalls on the mountain’s slope, which inspired another painting.   I painted two other paintings of Alberta Falls Colorado Rockies where I explored the mix of colours in the landscape.  One of these was selected for exhibition as part of an internaional exhibition in 2018 by the International Watercolor Society and the CSPWC.

At The Snowline RMNP was juried into the CSPWC’s 90th annual Open Water Exhibition and was purchased in Halifax in 2015.
