West Coast Series (2016)

A visit to my sister’s home in Nanaimo, in the fall of 2016 and a visit to Washington’s Seattle area in 2017 inspired this series.  I encountered mostly overcast and misty grey days.

Near Nanaimo, I was fascinated with the backlighting of the morning sun as it filtered through the trees and burned through the crisp dew-filled air while I was hiking around Little Qualicum Falls and River trail.

At Mt. Rainier, I was taken by the mix of and contrasts of colours at a mountain creek touched by a forest fire.  A second painting emphasizing even more of the contrasts was selected for exhibition as a joint project of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour and the France Watercolor Society in Halton Hills, Ontario and Avignon, France..
